Volunteering

Turning Mental Health on its Head!

Individuals may become members of the Geelong Mood Support Group for a number of reasons.   A frequent situation is that an illness has interrupted employment positions and employment opportunities.   Dealing with the strains of work timeframes, concentration, workloads and interpersonal skills required to carry out duties can be extremely difficult at times.  Throw in some personal issues and emotional ups and downs and it becomes hard to sustain the levels necessary to work.

At the G.M.S.G. you can begin to regain confidence, challenge yourself, and prepare yourself to re-enter the workforce through volunteering.   As you get to know our service, feel more comfortable and knowledgeable about our Group we have a number of opportunities for members to develop employment skills. Volunteers can take up reception/administrative duties, assist us to develop and maintain the library or join school presenters to educate teenagers about mental health concerns.

People who are interested in volunteering go through training to establish a grounding in the duties to be undertaken, re-establish some of the skills they may have lost during the time out of work and are provided with some structure to their weekly activities.
